Elegy for Ray Pye Age 81 years, Ray was a lovely man, so cheerful, despite his withered arms and hands from the beastly Motor Neuron Disease which sapped his power to manage even the most menial tasks, like eating, drinking, and dressing, and towards his end, not even able to hold a cigarette – yet taking this in his stride. Grateful only that, the disease had hit him late in age, when he had already enjoyed a good life.
